Upcycling Workshop

"If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production." Pete Seeger

Upcycling is the process of transforming waste into a material or product that is of a higher quality while contributing to circular economies and zero waste. This session, will allow participants to learn about different types of waste, think about traditional disposal of solid waste, experience the relevance of upcycling and implementing alternatives to reduce waste.

Activities:

The sessions integrate environmental education with art through painting and upcycling techniques. The items that the participants will create are a constant reminder to them that waste does not always have to end up in the landfill but can have other creative uses. See below the DIY kits we have available for the upcycling sessions.

Impact:

The upcycling workshop has been offered in different venues such as libraries, birthday parties, summer camps, online sessions and for elementary and high school’s students. This program has been key to build a culture of environmental awareness and most importantly, develop concrete actions towards a more sustainable world. Annually about 2,000 families and students, including teachers, seniors, and the public have engaged in hands-on learning activities and changing behavior in an enjoyable atmosphere through the arts. Thanks to our community of eco-artists we have diverted from the landfill: 5 tonnes of corrugated cardboard and 3 tonnes of plastic bottles.
